The Church of Christ the Consoler, also known as Newby Church, is a Victorian Gothic Revival church built in the Early English style by William Burges. It is located in the grounds of Newby Hall.
The image to the left was taken in 1963 by the Reverend K. F. Lord. He claimed that when the photograph was taken, there was nothing standing at the alter. However, when the film was developed a monk-like figure could be seen to the right of the altar.
